441 East 57th Street, New York NY
The project is located on East 57th Street between Sutton Place and First Avenue in Manhattan. The building is 20,000 s.f. and rises 15 stories above street level. It is comprised of 6 unique offerings clearly delineated on the façade with anodized metal channels. This assembly evokes a vertical block of town homes stitched into a unified column. The façade is a glass rain-screen comprised of fifty-one different panel types. The assembly is comprised of over fifteen hundred framed puzzle pieces. During daylight hours the building reads as a back-painted glass box, only revealing its window apertures when illuminated from the interior at night. The building’s mass serves as a contemporary seam, repairing a previously broken cornice line between the neighboring 1930’s cooperatives. The composition of glass façade is rich and textured paying homage to its historic surroundings.
